A few words of comment back re the Arctic Challenge. I don’t want to eulogise too much…… Slatt’s kayaking style had everyone laughing – he broke all the rules – yet his power and determination took him to the front of the field during the whole week. On race-day he gritted those teeth and dug deep to endure 5 hours paddling like a Duracell advert in rough seas and for much of the time with a headwind to finish ahead of some outstanding and life-long Norwegian kayakers. These were serious, serious competitive kayakers and Slatts was up there amongst them. I will never forgive him for forgetting the ginger nuts (that would be biscuits), but his achievements in the boat were terrific. Great memories.
Well DD & myself made it back from the Arctic Sea and have to say was an incredible adventure and is everything that O2e is about. We were certainly way out of our comfort zones both in and out of our kayaks but have come away with new skills, new confidence and a great new sport to add to the CV. DD was magnificent ( although was grumpy after a few days of cold baked beans for yet another meal! ) and a great partner to share this experience with and his pure enthusiasm and determination was very inspiring-thanks DD
